Martin LEGINUS


Martin Leginus was born in Snina, Slovakia, Martin Leginus studied at the State Conservatory and the University of Performing Arts in Bratislava. Since 2006 he has worked for the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava, where in January 2007 he made a successful debut as a stand-in, conducting Aram Khachaturian’s ballet Spartacus. Since 2008 he has been conductor in residence. From August 2013 to March 2016 he was the music director of the State Opera in Prague. He has conducted productions of the operas Orfeo ed EuridiceDie ZauberflöteIl barbiere di SivigliaI due FoscariMacbeth, La traviata, Aida, Otello, Lohengrin, Hänsel und Gretel, Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci, Madama Butterfly, La rondine, Manon Lescaut, The Bartered Bride, Martin and the Sun, and the ballets Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Spartacus, Ivan the Terrible, Romeo and Juliet, La Sylphide and Giselle. He has collaborated with numerous soloists, including Leo Nucci, José Cura, Štefan Kocán, Jana Kurucová, Pavol Breslik, Adriana Kučerová, Sergey Larin, Dalibor Jenis, Peter Mikuláš, Eva Urbanová, and other artists.

Martin Leginus collaborates with the Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina and with the State Philharmonic, Košice.
