Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125

Famous Beethoven´s Symphony No. 9 “Ode to Joy” under the baton of the famous Slovak conductor Oliver Dohnányi will be performed on the occasion of the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This concert is a joint performance formed by two European orchestras: the Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina(Slovakia) and the Henryk Mikołaj Górecki Silesian Philharmonic (Poland), both members of ONE® - an Orchestra Network for Europe, and the Silesian Philharmonic Choir (Jarosław Wolanin - choirmaster) and the notorious Slovak singers: Mária Porubčinová - soprano, Terézia Kružliaková - mezzosoprano,Ľudovít Ludha - tenor, Peter Mikuláš, within the framework of the project ONE®is more, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.

An Orchestra Network for Europe – ONE®, is a distinctive network of classical symphony orchestras initiated in 2003.

Since 2005, it has received support from the European Union under the Culture Programme for 3 cooperation projects and 1 multiannual project. Its successive periods of activity have been called ONE, ONE a new dimension, ONE step further, ONE® goes places, and from July 2015 to March 2019 ONE® is more.

Inspired by a long-standing experience of cooperation, seven orchestras:Orchestre de Picardie (Amiens-France), Jenaer Philharmonie (Jena-Germany), Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina (Žilina-Slovakia), RTV Slo Symphony Orchestra (Ljubljana-Slovenia), Filharmonia Śląska im. Henryka Mikołaja Góreckiego (Katowice-Poland), Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra (Zlín-Czech Republic), New Symphony Orchestra (Sofia-Bulgaria), and its new memberUniversity for the Creative Arts – UCA (Canterbury-UK), implement intercultural dialogue, trans-national mobility of artists and of cultural works.

In addition to the long-established activities of exchange of orchestra musicians, mobility of trans-national chamber music groups, circulation of cultural works, residency of composers, collective commissioning, performances of combined orchestras and coordination meetings, ONE® puts special emphasis on the pre-professional training of young musicians, their integration in the professional sector and the promotion of their talent.
