Requiem for soloists, choir and orchestra
to the 200th Composer´s Birthday Anniversary
An expressive work filled with huge dramatic contrasts, imploring and tearful parts – that is the Requiem of the Italian master composer Giuseppe Verdi. The Milan premiere, conducted by the composer, was held on the first anniversary of the death of the composer's friend, poet Alessandro Manzoni, to whom the work is dedicated. Within a short time after the premiere, the Requiem appeared in the most important music venues in Europe, immediately winning critical acclaim.
The SSZ presents this monumental work with the cooperation of the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, and the Chorus of the Silesian Philharmonic of Katowice, under the auspices of the International Project ONE. The unique ensemble includes four internationally known soloists, and all perform under the baton of American conductor and current music director of the Jena Philharmonic, Marc Tardue.
